In 2012 the Women’s City Club approached the New York City Independent Budget Office (IBO), which agreed to collect data on space usage for physical education from the DOE Annual Facilities Survey and on teachers assigned to physical education classes in each school from school budget data and DOE’s Human Resources database. The results highlight the critical need for action on the issue of physical education access.
